The Boy’s Room: After

As I mentioned in my last post, we moved the Boy’s room to the room formerly known as Stephen’s Pit and made his old room into the guest room.  This is the Boy’s room now:

It’s pretty simple, with his bed, a side table, and his drum kit. There is still work to do in the closet (not pictured), because it still has some of Stephen’s stuff in it. But the closet is large enough to fit a small dresser, which is where most of the Boy’s clothes live.

His room isn’t finished, though. The bed will likely get moved to under the window because the blue wall will be painted with a big neon green circle and the letter of his first name in orange in the center of the circle. He’s super into bright colors right now. Remember Kristen? She designed it and will be coming back to paint it. We will probably install a few floating shelves for all of his trophies and a hammock of sorts spanning a corner for his stuffed animals.

I wish it was done so I could show you all the complete finished room, but this is a reality blog. And the reality is, it’s not done.

And, in case you’re curious, this is what Stephen’s Pit looked like:

I don’t think it could have been any more disgusting. We kept the door shut. All the time. For years. I couldn’t stand to look at it. It was stuffed to the brim with crap and the carpet was nasty (it came with the house).

When we moved all of the stuff into the sunroom last summer when the hardwood floors were being put in, Stephen went through a lot of the stuff and was able to purge a large chunk. Throughout our Simple Year, he has slowly been addressing what remained. And he isn’t done. But, it’s way better than when we started.

Which is kind of becoming the theme, lately. We’ve got more work to do, but it’s way better than when we started. And with that, I wish you all an amazing weekend.
