The Definition of Random

I was determined to finish something today. And that something was clearing a table in the garage. But, holy goodness, can you say random?

There’s, like, no theme to this stuff. None. I so love to label things to fit in a nice, neat, tidy box. Which says a lot about me, really. Alas, no label. Other than a hodgepodge/random assortment ‘o crap.

GarageTableBefore

I kept very little of this, to be frank. Anything that could be recycled was. Expired items got tossed.

The ceramic bowl and utensils got put into the dishwasher, the laundry related bottles got moved to the laundry area, the cleaning supplies got put with the cleaning supplies, the lone golf ball got put in Stephen’s golf bag, and the yoga mats got put where they belong. And by put where they belong, I mean a temporary place until I figure out their permanent place.

The rest is getting listed on Freecycle this afternoon. (The other stuff from Friday eventually got picked up on Sunday after two flakers.)

Which means we can also get rid of this table! I’ll list it on CraigsList or put it aside for the next donation pick up. Woo-hoo!

I feel like we’re really starting to make some serious progress now. Which is an enormous relief! I can feel the “impatient” trigger going off less frequently, which is good for every member of my family. I’m feeling more in control of the stuff, as opposed to the stuff having control over me. Which, really, is how it oughta be.

Do you have a catch-all table somewhere where everything just gets tossed, to be dealt with later? (I’ve decided that later is an evil, evil word meant to fuel procrastinators and cause their demise. But, that’s just me.)

  1. With every small area that you clear, I bet an enormous weight is lifted. After I clear out a drawer or organize an area, I love to go back and look at it a couple of times. It gives me a sense of satisfaction and it sends a message that I am heading in the right direction for me.
Congrats on a job well done.

  2. congratulations!! Those catch-all areas of ‘put this here for now’ are truly the challenge. And I’m impressed that you actually getting rid of the table too. You have my admiration!

  3. YEAH!! I am having a garage sale Thursday and hoping to get rid of what I have left and make some extra money. We found a house we like in the town we want to move to so I want to get rid of things we don’t need or want cause this girl is not taking them with her. Dh is on his own with his garage crap thou.

Great work getting rid of more stuff!! Keep up the good work!

  4. I have such a place in my home office desk drawer and a drawer in the kitchen (aka the Junk Drawer). I enjoy it’s a catch all and every few months I clear it out thinking if I had needed anything in it, I would have by then. I’ve mentioned before I’m not a clutterer for the most part but I’m becoming more conscience of too much. I’ve realized that my email box has become very cluttered as my email address gets sold off. Usually I just delete but like a weed, they come back. I’m taking the time now to unsubscribe so I have less email clutter. Feels good.

  5. I love to see empty space when I open up a drawer (I’ve been trying to declutter for a while now), so seeing the empty space on your table is a great accomplishment for you!!! Love your posts!!!

Tell me, tell me...
