Bye Bye Robin. :-(

Do you think Robin Williams knew how much his suicide would rock the world and bring sadness and sorrow? I’m guessing not. If you are out there – and hurting – please know there are people that love you and want you to get better. PLEASE seek help and support. You are worthy – you are loved – you are special.

A neighborhood suicide this past year was what prompted the Kind Year and my participation as the guest blogger. Here is a blog I wrote about the experience.

Rest in peace Robin – though I didn’t know you my heart was full of your joy and laughter – you will be missed.

  1. Depression runs in my family, and sadly it’s not a matter of knowing that people would be sad if you were gone, but that you feel you have too much pain to stand for it any longer. It is very tiring and painful to go through such deep sorrow day in and day out. I have rescue cats and a dog, and they keep me pushing =)

What I take from my knowledge about depression is avoiding having a negative impact on anyone’s day. I may end up just being neutral, but never to be negative. Don’t say anything hurtful or give a mean look to someone. You may not know what they are going through that day or in their lives, and you could end up being the breaking point. Smile to strangers. You may be the smile that makes their day =)

  2. Thank you for outreaching and explaining how depression has affected you. I’m glad you have your rescue babies to keep you going – and know that you have us. 🙂 I also love your advice about being kind and upbeat with strangers – the power in a smile and soft word is amazing.

  3. I do try to give a kind word or smile and remind myself that I do not know what is happening in someone else’s world. I was just so shocked and sad to hear of Robin Williams death, it just doesn’t seem right that he brought so much laughter and happiness to so many but obviously suffered so much inside.I admit there are dark times but my kids keep me going! Thank you Kim for this post.

  4. Thanks Jenni – I’m glad you have your kiddos to help you. I wish I understood more about depression – and how it makes people feel – so I could be better equipped to help. Every comment brings me a step closer to understanding…
