Day 185
I used to work in the radio industry. Back then, it was still a fairly cool gig. In the day, when I told people I worked for WZPL– All the hits, all the time, they were moderately impressed. Although, less so, when they figured out I didn’t actually speak on the radio but rather sold commercials to businesses like The Horny Toad Bar and Christi’s Boutique, “Where Fun and Fantasy Meet” .
Back in the early 90’s, we had on-air giveaways. In theory, the radio station would benefit because more people would listen in the hopes of winning four tickets to the Monster Truck Rally and dinner at Chi Chi’s. Conversely, the business providing the prize would benefit from all those Coolio and and Boyz II Men fans listening.
Fast forward a decade or two and I have recently discovered that that that symbiotic giveaway model is now being used online. Real bloggers, businesses’ social media pages and websites are all offering freebies in exchange for your page view and potential allegiance.
OK sorry, I need to get to the point.
In past posts, I have mentioned I might have bought a couple of things in thrift stores just because I knew they were a good deal or I went temporarily crazy or something. I actually have a small pile of these “good deals” stacked in my laundry room.
A few days ago, maybe fueled by a glass or two of wine, I came up with a great idea. I’m going to host my own giveaway. Much, like the radio giveaways, we will both benefit. I will be able to clear the stuff off my washer and you will have something that is suited to you. I like it, I hope someone enters.
Here are the goods:
This dark blue Juicy Couture velour track suit with its original tags was calling my name at Goodwill. I was so ecstatic to find it, I never actually tried it on (rookie mistake). It is too small. I’m going to guess it would probably fit between a US size 6-8. Don’t be mad at me or report me to the US Attorney General if it’s actually a knock off or something. I don’t know the difference.
These appear to have never been worn. I’m not sure what possessed me to buy these. I have never been able to pull off the whole Chuck Taylor look even though it is so cute on other people and, I think, the sequins make these evening wear.
I had planned on giving this garage sale find away with a meal. (see earlier post here). But the truth is I don’t really bake, so it has been taking up space for several months and needs to find a good home.
I have now reached the point that I am forgetting I have already read books apparently. And while this was a good book, it wasn’t good enough for me to also listen to it for eighteen hours. Going on a trip anytime soon?
TO WIN ANY OF THESE FABULOUS PRIZES
You can post a comment at the bottom of the page, you could send me a note in the “Contact Me” page or you can “Like” The Simple Year Facebook page here. If you have a preference for any or all of the prizes, please notate and I’ll have my kids randomly draw some winners over the weekend. Also, I’m happy to try to ship everything but the cake server to other countries but I will probably send it on the slow boat.
H! Hey, there. I totally enjoy reading your blog and really enjoy your fresh and humorous writing style. I love your give-a-way idea as well. I don’t need any of your offerings…this time around! Keep up the great work. My only complaint is that I wish you posted more often!! 🙂
Great idea! I would love the track suit or the cake platter! Such a fun way to “recycle” things!
How funny!! I love reading your blog! I’m going to say throw my name in the ring for the track suit. Looks pretty comfortable.
I’m thinking you should’ve treated this more like “Tradio”, where you say “I need some games for my kids” or “I’m needing a Girl Scout uniform”, etc. and I’ll trade you this cake dome for… See, I’m salivating over that cake dome that doesn’t have chips and cracks like mine…and would LOVE to release some items from MY house in order to have it!
I love your blog, and the cake server!
I would love to throw my hat in the ring for the audio book.
Shameless self-promotion. I love it! Please give my prize to some other needy person as I really don’t need any of them (although I am sure it would be amusing to try and squeeze my size 40 waist into something called “Juicy Couture”) .
But if you have stuffed Eeyore laying around somewhere….. 🙂
I’m trying to get rid of stuff, so please don’t put my name anywhere near the hat. But, still loving the blog.
What a great idea. I would love to win the J.C blue outfit which I will take to San Francisco a a present for my relative who is that size and used to work for that company. Unless of course I am suddenly a size six. Thanks Terry
This is an awesome idea. Don’t put me into the drawing, since I don’t need any of this stuff, but I’m going to try a swap post like Kathi said!
I’d love the track suit! It looks perfect for my winter running 🙂
Okay–please do this closer to the holidays–I’d love to “add” to your collection!
Audio book for sure. I foresee several 18 hour adventures in my future! Keep it coming! Good
Stuff.
Don’t want the stuff, but love your blog. I have 2 of that cake server, and guess what?? It’s also made to be a punch bowl! Flip the base over, and set the handle of the top down in- punch bowl. That’s why I have two, so I can serve cake and punch at the same time in a matching set. It hasn’t happened yet in the 8 years I’ve been married and had them, but you know, maybe one day….LOL
Ahhhhh, Tracy, you are brilliant. I just ran in and tried it! It also looks like you could use it for a rather large trifle.
Yeah, I’ve made big layered banana pudding dessert in it before. It looks pretty.
This is a great blog, I’m so glad I found it. And the shoes are JUST my size……..
As the wife of a Soldier getting ready to deploy for a year, I love your blog and sense of humor! I’d LOVE the track suit!!!
Crack me up. I have TWO of those cake plates, how about that. However I do not own those shoes and would enjoy embarrassing my three kids and my husband by wearing them. I can hear them now…’What are THOSE?’ and ‘You’re not going to actually WEAR THOSE are you?’ Whether I am able to embarrass them or not, I will continue to read about your “journey”. Thanks!
Ha, I love how many of your commenters are saying they don’t want the items. This is the drawback of a giveaway for minimalists, I can see! For example, I’d love the cake server, but don’t have any place to put it *glares at small kitchen*. I’m the wrong sizes for the tracksuit and shoes, too, alas, and the CD player in my car broke and I’m too cheap, I mean FRUGAL, to fix it.
I’m loving Kathi’s virtual swap idea, though. *g*
