Weekend To Do

closet

This weekend’s project

A few weeks before I started writing here, I overhauled this closet. They aren’t visible, but I installed hooks against the back wall for handbags and totes, and more hooks on the side for reusable grocery bags and other items we use often. You can see it’s gotten pretty trashed. So tomorrow I’m going to take everything out, hopefully get rid of more things, and put it all back together. As per Peter Walsh’s instructions, I’ve set up my outboxes, which are ready for more donations.

outboxes

Speaking of outboxes, Emma went through her things and found some more items to part with.  We are working on reorganizing her closet and I filled another basket with more things. Then I forgot to add them to the boxes for yesterday’s pickup.

In spite of forgetting about a box’s worth of items, I still put a good amount out yesterday:

I put my old magazine rack into the garage, and then forgot to put it out. But it’s definitely not coming back into the house. The white basket, another item I’ve had for many years, used to hold a fake ficus tree, which I gave away a while ago. Then I used it for gloves and hats in the winter. But I don’t really like it and have a smaller basket which will work better. Until yesterday it was on the floor of the closet pictured above.

And finally, after almost a year of getting rid of excess, I can say that I finally notice a big, significant difference in the house. I’ve found some empty spaces here and there.

Tomorrow Emma and I are going to go to lunch and have some girl time. I’m also going to catch up on my January Cure and #31Days2GetOrganized tasks. I missed a few this week. And I questioned my decision to do both, but since the January Cure involves cleaning and 31 Days focuses on decluttering, they complement each other well.

So check back Monday for a new and improved coat closet, and more!

One Response to Weekend To Do

  1. Well, look at you! You go, girl!!! I have to make a call to Salvation Army the first of the week, to take 5 or six boxes, myself. Although, part of my pile is of my mom`s stuff. I have been going through the stuff in her house for the last 8 months or so. She passed away 2 years ago, and I`m finally going through the stuff in her bedroom. And it`s tough 🙁 I have given my husband approx. 3 garbage bags FULL of stuff to shred. And this weekend, I tackle another cabinet (the second one, did the first one last week) in her bedroom, with probably a half garbage bag full to shred. Dear Heavens!

Tell me, tell me...
