I wrote here about how I wanted to embrace gratitude this holiday season and practice it every day. So, in the spirit of that, here is what I am thankful for this week:

1. This Blog

I’m grateful for The Simple Year. It has forced me to do some really hard work and embrace the concept of simplicity. Even when I don’t want to. And I’m thankful for all of you that comment. Even when you push me and make me question myself. Personal growth is a good thing. It’s not always comfortable. Sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes I squirm. But that’s ok.

2. My Family

Not long ago, I was talking with the Boy about how I used to wear makeup everyday when I worked downtown. News flash: makeup is a rarity now. He called the time when I worked crazy hours “the bad time.” He said he liked it better now. I like it better now, too.

Hugs from my Girl. And the fact that she does math problems in a math workbook we got from the store. Just because she wants to. She’s pretty spunky that way.

Stephen. He’s a pretty supportive dude.

3. Eddie and Izzy

Even when they poop on my floor.

4. The Cooler Weather

It’s a relief to get a break from the heat.

5. Bikram Yoga

Sweat. Heat. Healing. Namaste.

6. Medical Care

I’m grateful for my medical care. Even though it’s obscenely expensive. And I really just want to be better already.

7. My Girlfriends

Girls I’ve known forever. Girls who are now amazing women. I need them. And am blessed to have them in my life. Some live near. Some live far. But regardless of distance, they’re with me always.

8. A Full Recycle Bin Instead of a Full Trash Can

‘Nuff said.

What are you thankful for?

  1. i am thankful for pauses. so i can take notice.
my honey for putting up with me all these years
my kids, becoming such cool adults
my angels for protection and guidance
my ‘old girl club’ for advice and friendship
    blogoshere for inspiration

  2. I like how you say “it’s a relief to get a break from the heat” then, in the next line, that you love the heat of Bikram.

    • I know, right? I picked up on that, too. Although I wrote those sentences at two different times of the day. One before yoga and one after. But, the Texas outside heat is different, somehow, than the heat in the yoga room. And, I know that the heat in the yoga room is over as soon as I leave the room. 🙂

  3. Your list has inspired me to think about the biggest change this year and how I am thankful for it. I am thankful to have a job that I enjoy and a life that has a better work/home balance than I ever had before. Because I simplified my life and expenses, I can work less and be so much happier!!

  4. I love bikram yoga too (particularly when it’s over!) and I don’t think the list is contradictory – getting that blast of cool air when someone leaves first at the end of class is amazing. And made me appreciate breathing nice cool air. And that made me realise how much we take for granted ALL THE TIME!! Like when you have a sore neck makes you realise how much you use your neck muscles every day and how unappreciated they are. Like how your back pain is making me appreciate how lucky I am not to have any. Are you finding Bikram is helping?. Full marks for even attempting with your back problems.

Tell me, tell me...
